The purpose of mental preperation in sports is to create a mindset that lets you perform up to your capabilities in competition.
The first component begins days or weeks before competition and includes learning the strategies and working on goal setting, focus, confidence, self esteem, etc.
The second component is working on specific pregame routines that help the athlete to perform at his best.
With mental training athletes have the ability to move on after mistakes, maintain confidence and focus on what is need to be done to manage each task successfully in future.
